Ubuntu + Compiz + VirtualBox=Magic!

Have a look at this video to see how nicely you can integrate a windows virtual machine (VirtualBox) with Ubuntu using Compiz:

This tutorial will let you recreate the exact same functionality and effects; I will even provide the wall papers and such later.

This is one of the bests things I've seen about Ubuntu. Fantastic.

However, I can't install photoshop cs2 or office 2007. Anyone knows why?

Odd. Photoshop CS3 works without problems here, as does office 2003. I mean, they work on a virtual machine with windows installed on it. You are trying this with a VM, aren't you ? If not, see the tutorial below!

If you are trying this with virtualbox or vmware or something, maybe you have to install some stuff on your windows VM, like .NET. Do a full windows update first, then try again.

This is really awesome, going to try it for myself.

Can I ask what program you used to capture your desktop for this tutorial?

I've tried recordmydesktop, Istanbul and Wink and none of them will provide the sort of framerate and quality of your video.

I used gtk-recordMyDesktop.
IIRC, I disabled "encode on the fly" and enabled "zero compression".

Perhaps your hardware isn't up to the task? I used a Core2 @ 2.1 GHz, 2GB ram and (probably irrelevant) nVidia 7900 GS.

Now the video does play back at a higher speed than I recorded it; google messed that up, it was recorded at 15 FPS, and seems to play back at 25, but its pretty smooth even at the correct speed.

I'm using a Pentium DualCore E2180 @ 2.0 Ghz and 2Gb RAM. On-board graphics though so perhaps that's the problem?

I'll try the settings you used and see if that helps.

Thanks for the info - much appreciated.

And keep up the good work! :)
